HISTORY OF LEEPAAC

"L.E.E.P.A.A.C.": an awkward acronym for an outstanding organization. Officially incorporated as the Law Enforcement Explorer Post Advisor's Association of Colorado, "L.E.E.P.A.A.C." (as it is more commonly known) is an organization that provides support to Law Enforcement Exploring Posts along Colorado's Front Range and beyond.

L.E.E.P.A.A.C. traces its roots to the 1983 National Law Enforcement Explorer Conference, held at Colorado State University in Ft. Collins, Colorado. Several Advisors from Colorado met, and recognizing the benefits of mutual support and shared resources, organized the association of Advisors and Posts that became L.E.E.P.A.A.C. in 1984.

That year was also significant in that it saw the organization of the first "State Conference", modeled on the "National Conference" design. It drew less than 60 Explorers from a dozen Posts, but was deemed a success, and proved to be a model for the future. L.E.E.P.A.A.C. continues to host State Conferences on an annual basis.

Shared resources allows L.E.E.P.A.A.C. to host frequent training and competitive events that parallel the competitions found at Regional and National Conferences.   Additionally, continues the practice of sponsoring an annual Youth Leadership Conference for the youth leaders of member Posts and in 2006 hosted its first "Advisors Conference" in Estes Park, Colorado.

Incorporated in 1990 as an IRS-sanctioned "501 (C)(3) non-profit" corporation, L.E.E.P.A.A.C. is also engaged in supporting the advanced education of it's members, awarding college scholarships annually.

Twenty active law enforcement explorer posts from Colorado, Arizona, and Wyoming constitute the membership. L.E.E.P.A.A.C. is served by an elected Board of six officers: Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, Historian and Committee Chair, who are advised by an appointed youth representative and the Exploring Executives from local Learning for Life Councils. Membership is open to any duly constituted and registered Law Enforcement Explorer Post. Annual dues are $50.00. Business meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 11:00 AM.; the site varies as member agencies take turns in hosting the meetings.

LEEPAAC is proudly affiliated with the Denver Area Council of Learning for Life, a subsidary corporation of the Boy Scouts of America.  Please go to www.denverexploring.com for information about exploring opportunities beyond LEEPAAC.
